Jolie A. Elder
Jolie has explored a wide range of needle arts after learning to cross stitch at age four. She designs, teaches, spins, and stunt knits in the Atlanta area where she demystifies the obscure. She has served on the boards of Atlanta Knitting Guild, North Georgia Knitting Guild, Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance, and Center for Knit and Crochet. She has been published in PLY, Spin-Off, and Cast On. Her cleverest un-vention is a method for working stockinette-based laces reversibly. You can view her experiments at jolieaelder.blogspot.com and YouTube channel "Jolie knits."

Thursday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
1248 Intermediate Easy Reversible Cables
If you’ve ever made a cabled scarf or blanket, you know how it is only partly satisfying. One side is an array of beautiful cables, and the other side is obviously the wrong side. What if there was a way to make both sides good without resorting to double-knitting? But there is! This class will cover simple reversible cables as well as ribbles. Alas! These tricks don’t work for all types of cables; but we will look at when they can and can’t be applied.
You will receive the Legerdemain Reversible Cabled Scarf pattern with your handout in class!
Thursday 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
1247 Intermediate Brioche Rosetta Stone
It seems brioche is having a moment, especially in the work of Stephen West or Nancy Marchant. Do the directions look like Greek to you? How do I 'bark' or 'burp' in knitting? What does it mean to work the right-side twice without turning? What's knitting in the stitch below? Students will leave ready to work brioche patterns regardless of how they are described.
Friday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
1245 Intermediate Knit Faster with Combination Knitting
Do you dread 1x1 ribbing? Are your SSK decreases less tidy than your k2togs? Are you a continental knitter who hates to purl? Do you have trouble working make1-left and make1-right? Learn how and when to combination knit to make your knitting more pleasant, beautiful, and faster!
Friday 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
1242 Advanced Introduction to Versa Lace
We love lace! We love the feminine allure of lace shawls and wraps and cowls and scarves. But we do not love the wrong sides of these garments. Phooey! What's a knitter to do? Did you know you can convert many stockinette-based lace patterns into reversible lace patterns? No, this is not double-knitting, but you should already be comfortable with 1x1 ribbing and lace knitting.
Note that the photo with the darker colored yarn is the project scarf and the light colored photo displays the technique better.
Saturday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
1246 Intermediate 1x1 Rib Wonders
When learning to knit, the progression is often garter stitch, then stockinette, then 1Ă—1 ribbing. We know what garter and stockinette do, but have you really explored the potential of 1Ă—1 ribbing?
Let's explore the hidden potential of this common stitch. We will discover it is the basis for a variety of astonishing reversible fabrics. We will explore splitting and twisting techniques that create unusual 3-D sculptural shapes. We’ll dip into combination knitting to see how to work ribbing more easily. And we will end by looking at the special properties and reversible nature of this ribbing, including cables, lace, intarsia; and its relationship to double-knitting. Come unlock the potential of a stitch pattern you already know!
