Advanced You should have made several garments in various stitch patters and should comfortable making minor changes to patterns. Advanced is fun and challenging for thinking knitters.

Carol J. Sulcoski is a former attorney turned knitting designer and hand-dyer. Her latest book is Sock Yarn Studio (Lark Crafts, 2012). She is author of Knitting Socks With Handpainted Yarns and co-author of Knit So Fine (both published by Interweave Press). Her work has been published in Vogue Knitting, KnitSimple, St-Denis Magazine, KnitScene, and various other books and magazines. She also founded Black Bunny Fibers (www.blackbunnyfibers.com), an independent dyeing business creating unique handpainted yarns and fibers, and her indie patterns can be found on Ravelry and Patternfish. She lives outside Philadelphia with her family.

525-3 Easy Yarn Substitution Made Easy
Master the mysteries of yarn substitution! We'll start with gauge, then discuss the various weights of yarn (fingering to super bulky), weight/yardage/plies, and look at fiber and yarn characteristics that affect substitution (e.g. drape, elasticity, weight, halo). We will also consider color choice and buying quantities of the substitute yarn. We'll finish by walking through some real-life examples by selecting potential substitute yarns for real patterns. Note: Class focuses on how to substitute yarns the same weight/gauge as called for by the pattern and does not include rewriting patterns to use a yarn with a different gauge.

573-3 Intermediate Socknitter's Seminar: Going Beyond the Basics
You know the basics: now take your sock knitting to the next level. In this class, we'll cover techniques and tricks for making your socks spectacular, including adjusting patterns for fit; tips for working with self-patterning and handpainted yarns; different toe and heel styles; mastering kitchener stitch (grafting); and more. Students are expected to be familiar with the basics of sock knitting and are encouraged to bring questions they may have.

369-3 Intermediate Secrets of the Schematic
Want to learn more about how a sweater will fit? Want some easy ways to tweak the pattern so it will fit you better? This class will explain to knitters the information that is available to them using a schematic, including what the measurements mean, how measurements correspond to fit, shoulder styles, and simple adjustments that can be made to customize fit. By the end of this class, knitters will understand how to use the schematic to select patterns they'll love: how to use the pattern during the course of knitting to achieve a better result; and how to improve fit.
