502-3 Easy Portuguese Style of Knitting During this workshop knitters will have the opportunity to learn and practice the style of knitting which is in Greece, Portugal, Egypt, and Turkey. The main characteristic is that the yarn is either wrapped behind the neck or looped the through a pin attached to the shoulder in order to maintain a constant tension. Advantages of knitting Portuguese style include:
It’s faster than either the American or Continental styles
It requires less hand movement – great for those suffering from Arthritis or Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
It helps maintain constant tension even for beginners
Blind knitters are overjoyed because they always know where the yarn is – the yarn is never dropped.
Optional Material Fee: $5.00 for knitting pin.

567-6 Intermediate Two-color Knitting: Portuguese Style The Portuguese style of knitting makes the purl stitch very easy. For this reason, when knitting circularly I prefer to knit garments inside out. This technique makes two-color knitting very smooth: where the two colors of yarn do not tangle and the tension of the fabric is very even. In this class we are going to learn all the basics of this style of knitting and then make a two-color knitting hat, learning the basics skills for many knitting projects: Fair Isle, double knitting and Bohus knitting.
Note: Class includes a brief review of skills learned in 502-3.
Optional materials fee: $10 for two knitting pins.
