Steeking is a traditional technique for making openings in pieces knit in the round. In this class we will discuss both common and uncommon ways to use steeks. You will practice 3 different methods for securing steeks without a sewing machine. You will take a deep breath and cut your sample steeks. Then, you will learn a variety of methods for dealing with the cut edges to create a beautifully finished product.

Do you know children who are envious of your hand knit socks? Most sock patterns are published for adult sizes. In this class, we'll celebrate little feet. You'll find out about children's sock sizes and fitting issues. You'll learn to adapt a pattern planned for adults to children's sizes. You'll see how to design your own kids socks from the ground up (or cuff down). We'll explore the details and flourishes that will have the little ones lining up to be the next recipient of socks knit by you!

410-3 Intermediate Beyond the Rectangle: Fun Shapes for Shawls and Wraps
Shawls and wraps are fun to knit and lovely to wear. Learn to break out of the rectangular box and create shawls that hug your shoulders in the form of half circles, V-shapes, triangles and more. Practice creating curves and corners and learn the simple, intuitive geometry that underlies all these shapes.

Stranded Fair Isle style colorwork is a classic technique that belongs in every knitter's repertoire. Experiment with 1-handed and 2-handed methods to see which is more comfortable for you. Learn simple tricks for keeping your tension even. See why certain color combinations sing while others fall flat. You'll leave with the beginning of a hat, or a finished headband.
