Basic Know basic stitches (knit, purl or single crochet, double crochet).
Easy You should know the basics, how to increase and decrease, and have made at least one project.
Intermediate You should have worked with a few stitch patterns and should be familiar wtih basic garment shaping.
Advanced You should have made several garments in various stitch patters and should comfortable making minor changes to patterns. Advanced is fun and challenging for thinking knitters.

Jane Slicer Smith
Jane has an honors degree in knitwear design from Trent University in England and extensive experience as a designer and producer of handknit garments and knitting kits through her company Signatur Handknits (sigknit.com). Her book Swing Swagger Drape includes the A-line and Swingcoat patterns for which she is best known. When she is not teaching in the US and England, she is at home in Sydney, Australia.

Take a designer's journey with Jane and mitered squares. First, step out of the square by seeing it as a mitered diamond. Add increases for A-line and Swing and decreases for Jane's flattering fit and style. Jane talks about how she has learned to accommodate and manipulate the limitations of miters into A-line and Swagger styles, showing garments from her book Swing, Swagger, Drape—all with two-row stripes!

Explore and understand simple textures from moss stitch to cables. Learn how to read your knitting in relation to instructions and simple graphs and how cables, bobbles, and bells bring dimension to the surface of the knitting. Jane will show garments and demonstrate how she uses textures within most of her designs. This class brings many elements together from knitting texture to understanding how texture is used by designers.

This class is for students ready to use their cable needle for more than cables—traveling stitches! Great things can happen once we get the stitches travelling across the knitting—diamonds even! Join Jane and learn to not just read the pattern but read your knitting too—turn the lights onto your needles! Jane will show sample garments and show how texture is involved with shaping garments for A-line and swingcoat. Be sure not to forget your cable needle!
