ETC Advanced Latvian Mittens
Latvia’s mittens became so magnificent because of their importance within the rites of marriage — think of our wedding cakes. The bride and groom wore a particularly ornate pair during the ceremony, but mitten importance continued throughout a week of marriage rituals and celebrations. If the bride married into a large household, she could need over 100 pairs of presentation mittens to fulfill Latvian wedding traditions!
During two mitten immersion days, learn a twisted edge, three variations of fringe, single and double scallops, and seven braid variations. Also learn how to place your chosen pattern, explore color combinations, get your gauge to fit your mittens, then learn thumb and top decrease techniques. Finally you plan and cast-on your chosen design and technique combinations for your original Latvian mittens.
All the while, you’re surrounded by over 100 different mittens to analyze, fondle, and photograph!
Note: Must be comfortable working with 2 colors on dpns or 2 circulars.
This event is also available as part of a combo package which includes
this class, 15 hours of classes, Opening Day and Luncheon, Fashion Show
and Dinner, and the Student Banquet.
