Thursday 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
102-3 No skills required Intro to Color
Color brings life and excitement to our knitting, yet many feel uncertain about how to approach color. The human eye is capable of discerning over three million distinct colors, yet most of us have untrained eyes. Learn about color from an artist's perspective and begin a journey of enhanced perception. Laura presents color effects in tangible visual terms that illustrate why color combinations work or don't work. While a basic understanding of the color wheel is useful, this class will not present wheel based formulas such as many have heard of. A new way of sorting color and seeing relationships becomes the basis for exploring color through knitting. You will achieve a deeper understanding of color and perception, and Laura promises you will never look at color in the same way again. You will leave understanding Laura's favorite axiom: You don't get WOW by doing the expected!
Friday 8:30 am - 11:30 am
126-3 Intermediate Color Blending
If we think of a knit stitch as a pixel, we realize that knitting is the perfect vehicle for color blending. Take the next color step with Laura and learn how to select colors to maximize optical mixture, creating lovely shading and color blending. Learn to work your own magic on a large group of colors, controlling and selecting just the right ones for a Monet's garden of yarn. Simple swatches will provide hands-on experience. You will achieve a greater sense of confidence about selecting colors and leave with a deeper understanding of Laura's favorite axiom: You don't get WOW by doing the expected!
Note: Must have taken any one color course of Laura's.
Materials fee: $3.
Friday 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
108-3 Intermediate Perfect Pairs: Contrast & Coordinate
It's a daunting task to pick the perfect color to pair with another. This class expands on Laura's Intro to Color class and takes you through the steps to pair colors that achieve your purpose, whether it be to calm or energize a color; excite or create quiet sophistication in your knitted fabric. Hands-on swatching with a variety of solid and multi-colored yarns allows you to see for yourself how different colors interact with one another. You'll leave with more confidence in creating color combinations.
Note: Must have taken Intro to Color.
Materials Fee: $3.00 for additional yarns.
