Thursday 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
687-3 Easy Very Simple, Very Sensational
We will swatch knit and purl combinations that result in truly fabulous stitch patterns found in old Estonian stitch libraries. While these stitches can be adapted to most anything you knit, the class swatch can be continued to result in a lovely cap, cowl, or even a panel for a sweater or vest because of the addition of the lovely selvedges you'll learn as you knit the swatch.
Friday 8:30 am - 11:30 am
Friday 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
663-6 Advanced Knitting Lace; Estonian Style
While working a swatch that can grow into a lovely scarf, we'll explore those unusual stitch manipulations (including simultaneous decrease/increase elements and nupps of course) that can make any lace project even more special. Participants will be provided both traditional and contemporary edging choices along with a pattern adapted from a traditional shawl. The swatch itself can be used to sew onto a canvas tote for a lovely project bag. Worked in multiple repeats, the same stitch pattern provided can also be worked into a shawl.
Both heirloom traditional Haapsalu style shawls and scarves as well as contemporary examples of lace knit Estonian style from the instructor's collection will be displayed during class.
Note: Must be comfortable with lace knitting (increases, decreases and working from charts).
Saturday 8:30 am - 11:30 am
Saturday 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
697-6 Advanced Beyond Fiendishly Difficult Stitches
Whether or not you've ever taken Merike's popular Fiendishly Difficult Stitches 3-hour class, this class provides an even more fascinating assortment of stitches as well as working with two different selvedge treatments that are a delight in themselves. This class could have a few subtitles: "The Unchartables" or "When a YO is not just a YO". If you choose to continue your swatch until it is long enough to fit around your head, you'll have a fabulous headwarmer. Add a crown for a hat. Or, turn it into a cowl. You will want to use some of these stitches in your future projects.
Sunday 8:30 am - 11:30 am SOLD OUT
765-3 No skills required Microwave Rainbow Dyeing

You choose and mix your combination of colors, paint your yarns, and set the dyes using a microwave oven. We'll cover some basic color theory, safety precautions, and then go straight to dyeing.
