Chris retired from a career in marketing communications and advertising to pursue her artistic passion, knitting and texture play, at home in Madison, WI. Instead she is having a wonderful time teaching workshops from coast to coast – and beyond – for TNNA, shops, guilds, and conferences and has her own line of knitting patterns. She has also designed knit garments for the American Girl clothing line.
Chris finds inspiration in nature's colors and combinations, and her knitting designs reflect her pleasure in combining fibers, textures, gauges, and colors in ways that create fun, yet always wearable, knits.

3022 Advanced Design in a Day
Want to turn that idea floating around in your head into a functional pattern with stitches on your needle by the end of the day? Or maybe you just wish you could change the neckline or sizing. You CAN do it!
Spend the day with Chris Bylsma, a creative yet practical designer, who has honed her skills through experience. Learn practical, perhaps unconventional, ways to demystify gauge, sizing, style, measurements, swatch, and yarn choice. The result is a personalized pattern for you and a new sense of empowerment. Whether you are adventurous or have never ventured from a pattern before, learn to take control of your knitting.
Note: You need to have knit a wearable garment such as a sweater or jacket.

2038 Easy Devilish Designer Details
Details can often make or break a garment. Fingercord (not finger knitting) is one of those elements that can add just the perfect touch and is so versatile—but so unknown—that requires only your fingers, yarn, and a will to play! Learn how to create ties, drawstrings, frogs, loop closures, swirled buttons, and more. Then master the secrets of a designer swirl, a lettuce edge, and a faux fringed pocket to add full designer impact to your creations.
Saturday 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
3064 Intermediate Neckline Love
You love the sweater but not the neckline. So change it! Learn to design your own crew, turtle, V-neck, scoop, asymmetric—any shape neckline, in any gauge, that fits you. Finish it with perfect picked-up edges for flawless necklines you will definitely love, love, love.
Sunday 8:30 am - 11:30 am
2026 Intermediate Steeks to the Rescue
Knitters often think scissors are the enemy of yarn, but actually they are great enablers. Learn three different non-machine ways to anchor and cut your knitting (yes!) to change a pullover to a cardigan, shape a neckline, re-size a garment, add armholes, and put you in charge.
Note: You need to be comfortable with a basic crochet chain.
Sunday 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
5022 Intermediate Beyond the Pattern: Knitting 'Purls' of Wisdom

These are a dozen of my most essential 'purls' of wisdom for knitting success—from winding a pull-skein by hand to wearing the garment out the door. Each nugget of information can make knitting more enjoyable and produce more professional results.
