Judith Shangold was a weaver in 1975 when she opened a yarn shop in Brooklyn, NY, called the Weaver's Studio. She taught weaving and knitting classes and had designs published in leading knitting magazines. In 1985 she moved to Boston and became the New England sales rep for several yarn companies, including Rowan, Colinette, Crystal Palace, and Manos del Uruguay. During this time she also developed her pattern lines: A Bear in Sheep's Clothing for bears and dolls and Designs by Judith, multi-gauge patterns for men and women. She distributed Manos yarn and produced the Design Source Collections of patterns for 8 years.
Having sold the business in 2007, Judith has returned to her first love, now weaving on a rigid-heddle loom. The garments in her book, Weave•Knit•Wear (available Septmber 2014, XRX Books), combine her knitting and weaving skills, flair for textiles, and interest in fashion.

7081 Intermediate Tapestry Technique for Wearable Textiles
Learn to paint with yarn using tapestry techniques. We usually think of tapestries as densely woven, weft-faced weaves used for wall hangings and rugs. The same techniques can be used with finer yarns and balanced weaves, however, to create textiles suitable for clothing and accessories.
You will come to class with your rigid-heddle or multi-harness loom warped for a cowl. After learning various ways to join colors, you will weave your cowl. Finishing and seaming will be demonstrated so that you can complete your project at home.
