Gyleen Fitzgerald
Gyleen Fitzgerald makes quilts that blend color, pattern and texture to provide a contemporary essence in traditional quilting. Her strength as a quilter is demonstrated by the infusion of engineering tools and innovative techniques to simplify visually complex quilts. She shares her enthusiasm for quilting through interactive lectures and workshops. As a writer, Gyleen centers on haiku poetry, quilt project books, magazine articles and children’s books.

An avid quilter, Gyleen has earned Best of Show honors and as a publisher, she is a repeat Gold Medal winner for Quilts: Unfinished Stories with New Endings and Polygon Affair…So Easy You’ll Fall in Love. She is best known for inspiring Trash to Treasure Pineapple Quilts and the creation of the Pineapple Tool by Gyleen. Gyleen has appeared on The Quilt Show and Lifetime TV promoting a contemporary spirit in traditional quiltmaking.

For Gyleen, dreams hold no limits. Ray, her husband is her shining light and quilting is her passion; together they color her world in a very special way. Gyleen is a Philadelphia, PA native, who spent her formative years in Taiwan and Japan.

9026 Easy Trash to Treasure Okay isn’t it time to clear the clutter in your life? What about using up all those bits and pieces stuff in nooks, crannies and boxes? Better?

Let’s make an old fashion favorite pineapple quilt with a new and contemporary twist; sewn with perfection and totally random; and without paper piecing! This workshop turns trash to a treasured one of a kind pineapple quilt.

Sew fast and free. You will learn how to use the Pineapple Tool to "trim to accuracy". Experiment with design layouts to discover the diversity of one block. It has endless possibilities.

Basic quilt-making skills required: rotary cutting, piecing a 1/4" seam.

9028 Easy Big Stitch In this workshop students will learn three different “fast” hand-quilting stitches to use alone or as an added design element to machine quilting. Gain knowledge on which needle to use, thread choices and how to select and use the right stencil. By the end of class, students will have developed a personal “hand” stitch.

9027 Intermediate Over and Under Rainbows Modern with a twist! "KNOT" as hard as you think! It's visually dynamic with fast easy piecing. Don't let cutting "tie" you up. All you need is one 2.5" strip set and 3.5 yards of background. You will learn how to use the Angle Trim Tool to make effortless 45 degree joins. Learn to have courage with color cross pairing.

9029 Intermediate Play Modern It’s fast, it’s quick, it’s geometric and it’s free-style piecing with control. We will start with the thought of having fun and being in the moment. The technique is to use the Polygon2 Tool and Butterfly Seam to create a BOLD wall-hanging that shouts, "Modern" or "Contemporary". This workshop is about you.  Learn the Butterfly Seam technique while exploring design.
Basic quilt-making skills required: rotary cutting, piecing a 1/4" seam.

9030 Easy Going in Circles Very similar to the Drunkard's Path with an extra curve. Learn raw edge applique technique to achieve perfect "stress-free" curves without piecing. Experiment with different layout designs to produce a unique design. This project stitches very fast; most finish complete top during the workshop. Wall hanging (25" x 25") uses 16 fabrics from 4 color groups. Learn how to raw edge applique. Practice with design and balance.
