English-born Catherine Redford learned to knit and sew at an early age, keeping her familyâ€™s Barbie dolls and action men well dressed. After relocating from London to Naperville, Illinois, she started quilting in 1998 and discovered a new passion in her life. Five years after taking her first quilting class, she began to teach. An award-winning quilter, active member of her local guilds, popular teacher at local and national levels, Catherine also co-founded the Naperville Modern Quilters Guild.
Catherine is an author, a frequent magazine contributor and guest on Quilting Arts TV. She has two DVDs on modern machine quilting techniques and her book,Modern Machine Quilting: Make a Perfectly Finished Quilt on Your Home Machine, was published in March 2017.

9057 Easy Walking Foot Quilting- Beyond the Ditch
Learn how to finish your quilts on a domestic machine while enjoying all the control of a walking foot. We will start with a brief discussion of preparing your tops for quilting including marking and basting. Then we will make stitched samples of different styles including modern grids, matchstick quilting, and spirals. Finish with a look at Catherineâ€™s work to inspire you to go home and turn your tops into quilts.

9056 Easy Steps to Successful Free-Motion Quilting
Discover the magic of free-motion quilting. After drawing our patterns on paper, we'll put the feed dogs down and begin stitching on quilt sandwiches in a relaxed, no-criticism-allowed setting. Try lots of different designs to find your personal favorites. This class is designed to give the beginning or hesitant machine quilter a confidence boost, ready to return home and practice.

9058 No skills required Introduction to Folk Art Embroidery
Start by learning or being reminded of some basic embroidery stitches on a specially designed pre-printed sampler. Then learn some novel embellishment techniques that add to the fun. Learn how Catherine transfers her own designs onto dark-colored backgrounds. Enjoy the relaxed tempo and reconnect with hand work!
Materials fee: $20 for kit including printed sampler, hand-dyed threads, needles, and embellishments.

Learn the techniques required for successful whip-stitch wool applique while working on a small piece that can be finished into a needle case or pin cushion. You'll discover how easy it is to embellish and add further dimension to your project with beautiful embroidery stitches.
