Catherine Redford
English-born Catherine Redford learned to knit and sew at an early age, keeping her family's Barbie dolls and action men well dressed. After relocating from London to Naperville, Illinois, she started quilting in 1998 and discovered a new passion in her life. Five years after taking her first quilting class, she began to teach. An award-winning quilter, active member of her local guilds, and popular teacher at local and national levels, Catherine also co-founded the Naperville Modern Quilters Guild.

An author, frequent magazine contributor, and guest on Quilting Arts TV, Catherine has two DVDs on modern machine quilting techniques and a book,Modern Machine Quilting: Make a Perfectly Finished Quilt on Your Home Machine, published in March 2017.

9057 Easy Walking Foot Quilting: Beyond the Ditch Learn how to finish your quilts on your domestic machine while enjoying all the control of a walking foot with the author of Modern Machine Quilting. We will start with a brief discussion of how to prepare your tops for quilting, including marking and basting. Then we will stitch samples of different styles, including modern grids, matchstick quilting, and spirals. Finish with a look at Catherine's work to inspire you to go home and turn your tops into quilts.

9056 Easy Steps to Successful Free-motion Quilting Discover the magic of free-motion quilting. After drawing our patterns on paper, we'll put the feed dogs down and begin stitching on quilt sandwiches in a relaxed, no-criticism-allowed setting. Try lots of different designs to find your personal favorites. This class is designed to give the beginning or hesitant machine quilter a confidence boost, ready to return home and practice.

9058 No skills required Introduction to Folk Art Embroidery Start by learning or being reminded of some basic embroidery stitches on a specially designed pre-printed sampler. Then learn some novel embellishment techniques that add to the fun. Learn how Catherine transfers her own designs onto dark-colored backgrounds. Enjoy the relaxed tempo and reconnect with hand work!

You'll discover how easy it is to embellish and add further dimension to your project with beautiful embroidery stitches.

9082 No skills required Wool Applique Butterflies Fine tune your technique for whip-stitch wool applique while working on a pretty butterfly that can be finished into a small pillow or pin cushion. Learn more fun embroidery stitches to embellish your project, building dimension and surface interest as you add each new stitch and color.

9084 Intermediate Further Steps in Folk Art Embroidery You've got the basic embroidery stitches mastered, now it's time to add to your stitch vocabulary. We'll work on a pre-printed sampler as we learn crested chain, bullion stitch, drizzle stitch, and lots more that will enhance your next embroidery project. We'll also discuss how Catherine includes her embroideries in her quilts.

Note: Need to have taken class 9058 Intro to Folk Art Embroidery or have knowledge of the basics.
