English-born Catherine Redford learned to knit and sew at an early age, keeping her family's Barbie dolls and action men well dressed. After relocating from London to Naperville, Illinois, she started quilting in 1998 and discovered a new passion in her life. Five years after taking her first quilting class, she began to teach. An award-winning quilter, active member of her local guilds, Â and popular teacher at local and national levels, Catherine also co-founded the Naperville Modern Quilters Guild.
An author, frequent magazine contributor, and guest on Quilting Arts TV, Catherine has two DVDs on modern machine quilting techniques and a book,Â Modern Machine Quilting: Make a Perfectly Finished Quilt on Your Home Machine, published in March 2017.

Learn a quick and easy way of hand quilting with big, bold stitches. We'll mark our designs, baste our pieces, and start sewing. Find out how relaxing and fun it can be to finish your quilts by hand! No frame, no hoop, just you, a needle, and thread.

9057 Easy Walking Foot Quilting: Beyond the Ditch
Learn how to finish your quilts on a domestic machine while enjoying all the control of a walking foot. We will start with a brief discussion of preparing your tops for quilting, including marking and basting. Then we will stitch samples of different styles, including modern grids, matchstick quilting, and spirals. Finish with a look at Catherine's work to inspire you to go home and turn your tops into quilts.
Note: Sewing machines provided for use in class.

9058 No skills required Introduction to Folk Art Embroidery
Start by learning or being reminded of some basic embroidery stitches on a specially designed pre-printed sampler. Then learn some novel embellishment techniques that add to the fun. Learn how Catherine transfers her own designs onto dark-colored backgrounds. Enjoy the relaxed tempo and reconnect with hand work!

1306 Intermediate Dimensional Embroidery Stitches
Expand your skills as you some more-advanced dimensional stitches to your embroidery vocabulary. Choose from a selection of pre-printed fabric samplers and experiment with crested chain, double cast-on, drizzle, trellis and lots more stitches.
Note: You should know the basic embroidery stitches or have taken 9058 Intro to Folk Art Embroidery.
