Biography |
My grandmother taught me to knit when I was six, and I spent weeks working on a striped scarf for my father to wear to football games. He got the gift in time for Christmas, but never wore it. I discovered why years later when I found it folded neatly on a closet shelf-it was 6" wide and 18" long-plenty long to fit around my skinny neck at the time, but not nearly scarf-length!
Nana lived with us and knit/crocheted constantly, and my mother sewed and did needlepoint, so I don't recall a time when I didn't have some sort of project to work on. During my teen years and college I dabbled in crochet, but kept knitting. When I got married, I started frequenting my local yarn shop so often that, 5 years later when I had my first child, I decided to become a partner! As a yarn shop owner, I learned a lot from my customers about their likes and dislikes, and about what techniques they need to know, and about those they fear. I found that most knitters don't know more than one cast-on, and are unaware of how much they don't know--things that would make their knitting easier. We closed the yarn shop closed several years ago, but I am having even more fun now designing and teaching-a job that allows me to be "mommy" to my kids while indulging in my favorite pastime.
