Biography
Let's see - taught myself to knit after reading a few chapters of EZ's Knitting Workshop. Immediately started a patterned yoke pullover. That was 91, I think. Spent a few years designing for Fingerlakes Woolen Mill, then submitting designs to various mags. Now have my own line of patterns. Prior to knitting, I taught myself handspinning, natural dyeing and hand weaving, also did some quilting and rughooking. Seems like the knowledge of and inclination towards textiles from various past lives insists on exhibiting itself in this life, as well! Textiles make a home, and when all is right in my home, I am centered and can then be productive. When EZ talks about making her first aran sweater for VK, sitting in that boat with Gaffer as he fished, and she says that her hands "knew" what they were doing, as if she was at another time, sitting in a cruder boat, making a similar garment, not only did I know what she meant, but was relieved and reaffirmed by her vocalization of my own textile "knowing". Though this is a bio, which is what I've DONE, I often ponder about my knitting future, as I think that's more important. Where do we want to go, as knitters, as weavers, as people....

What is your knitting mantra?
Don't have one. Don't need one.

What inspires you?
Everything! Nature, interior decor, William Morris, Art Nouveau, Scandinavian design, quilts and other textiles...I'm very textile oriented.

Confess - when it comes to hiding your yarn, what are your secrets?
I don't need to hide my yarn, I don't collect alot of it, only what I'll use in the next few months or so.

What is your idea of knitting heaven?
Knitting Heaven - a comfy chair, a glass of wine, an old movie to listen to and any project I'm currently working on!

How many UFO's (Unfinished Objects)do you have going at once?
usually about 3

My yarn stash equals the GNP (Gross National Product) of ...
hahahaha! I can't think of a country small enough!

Whom would you like to see accept an Academy Award wearing your creation?
Meryl Streep - just LOVE her!

What knitting commandment do you most like to break?
I don't believe there are knitting commandments, only different ways to do things. Like the way I knit, I've never seen anyone knit my way; so just because I don't knit in the traditional continental or American way, does that mean I've broken some rule as to how one is "supposed" to knit - I think not!

What frequently-asked knitting question do you hate to answer?
All questions are important, though simple questions, like: what is a ssk, or what is a steek, or what does tbl mean, can be irksome, as this info can be found in almost any knitting magazine, or knitting reference book, which we all have! I do try to remember how I felt as a beginner knitter, so I can answer simple knitting questions in a way that will put new knitters at ease.

What is your most dog-eared knitting reference?
All of Barbara Walker's books!! I rip the pages I need out of them, as I work on a particular idea! One book is now being held together by duct tape! But, as I'll never want to sell them I don't have to worry about the fact that no-one but me will want them in that condition!

When and how did you learn to knit?
see above!

How long can you last without knitting?
About a day

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what one yarn, book, or gizmo would you want along?
EZ's Knitting Around, wool yarn and my ckns!

How many hours have you knitted non-stop - and why?
I don't knit more than 6 hours non-stop - not about to damage my wrists. My hubby has carpal tunnel - one in the family is enough.

What do you want your knitting epitaph to say?
In knitting, as in life, you can do anything you put your mind and your heart to.

Who would you like to greet you in knitting heaven?
EZ!
