What is your knitting mantra? |
Blocking is my friend.
|
What inspires you? |
interesting techniques, construction details, blending sts with shaping, sneaky ways to make finishing at least easier/faster/more interesting
|
Confess - when it comes to hiding your yarn, what are your secrets? |
well, it's not exactly "hidden", but we had to build an 8x10' tin shed in which 15 96-qt plastic containers full of yarn are stored. That's probably ~2/3 of my stash; the remainder is in bags tucked in corners of various bedrooms, so that I have something to work on if I get the urge in the evening and don't have to stumble around in the dark to find something in the shed!
|
What is your idea of knitting heaven? |
unlimited time, uninterrupted by mundane things such as eating, sleeping and going to work! I already have all the yarn, books and ndls ever needed (well, maybe I'll have to check out that 'possum yarn! )
|
How many UFO's (Unfinished Objects)do you have going at once? |
You don't want to know! Of course there are ndls in all of them, so I have to go out and buy more. I looked in my ndl roll the other day for a size 7 circ (my favorites), and there were only a couple of 16" ones in the pocket. I'm sure that at one time I prob had nearly a dozen size 7's, in various lengths, in there.

My yarn stash equals the GNP (Gross National Product) of ... |
let's not go there...... I placate my conscience with the fact that most of it I got on sale. Of course it's still nice stuff, 100% natural fibers for the most part. Lots of hand-painted things, too.
|
Whom would you like to see accept an Academy Award wearing your creation? |
Who was it? Jennifer Lopez who was wearing not much of anything? At least I wouldn't have to sweat that deadline!
|
What knitting commandment do you most like to break? |
Thou shalt NOT slip the first st of a row, on the rare occasions that I knit flat. I slip the first st all the time to get a chain stitch selvedge. I've fiddled around and "unvented" several decorative ways to seam them, which is most proponents' complaint about using this techinque.
|
What frequently-asked knitting question do you hate to answer? |
"How long did it take you to knit that?
I seldom keep close track, and besides, I rarely work on one project straight thru, ergo have lots of starts and stops
|
What is your most dog-eared knitting reference? |
Knitting Without Tears. I bought it in 1975 and it simply changed my life! There are other tomes with more information, but that book marked the true turning point for me.
|
What is the most unusual place you've ever knitted? |
Frequently on the bloodmobile where I work, when we have lulls or on my way to/fro destinations.
|
How long can you last without knitting? |
Actually, these last few years have changed for me. I sometimes go several weeks or even months without knitting very much. I don't know why, but the compulsion has waned. Probably since I got hooked up to the Internet and signed on to various knitting lists. I was getting my knitting "fixes" vicariously.
|
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what one yarn, book, or gizmo would you want along? |
Probably some EZ tapes. (I do get a loooooong extension cord, right? (;-)) They provide company, as well as good knitting information and stimulation. And she has the most wonderful soothing voice...............
|
How many hours have you knitted non-stop - and why? |
I don't keep track, but probably not very long. Even when I don't have "official" interruptions, I just can't sit still and knit for hours on end.
|
What do you want your knitting epitaph to say? |
"She was original!"
|
Who would you like to greet you in knitting heaven? |
Elizabeth Zimmermann. I had the good fortune to go to her knitting camps for ~10 years before she retired - my first time was in '79. Besides knitter extraordinaire, she was a magnificent human being, always warm and kind, and wickedly witty.
