Biography
Since learning to knit and crochet at the age of nine, this skillful knitter, crocheter, designer and teacher has gone on to win many awards. She designs for yarn companies and has seen many of her designs and articles published in national magazines. Her most recent designs were featured on the front cover of TKGA's Fall 2001 Cast On Magazine. Two of her children sweaters were published by XRX, Inc. in the "Kids, Kids, Kids" book. Joyce teaches knitting and crochet the The L.A. Stitchers and JoAnn's Fabric Store in Torrance, CA. She has taught many workshops and classes for West Coast knitting/crochet guilds, TKGA, CGOA, and Crochet Renaissance. Joyce says, "God has blessed me with the gift of knitting and crochet", gifts whe enjoys sharing with others. My motto for crocheters is, "Why should knitters have all the fun? If I can knit it, I will figure out a way to crochet it!" Joyce volunteered as a committee chairperson for the 2001 & 2002 Knit-Out Crochet Too which was held in Santa Monica, CA. She is a member of the Slipt Stitchers in El Segundo,CA chapter of TKGA, where she has served in many official capacities. She is also a member of The Knotty Knitters of No. Orange County, CA chapter of TKGA; The Knotty Sisters of Torrance, CA; Crochet Guild of Long Beach, CA; TKGA; CGOA; and TNNA. She is a certified knitting and crochet instructor with the Craft Yarn Council of America.

What is your knitting mantra?
When all else fails while knitting or crocheting, fudge and smudge.

What inspires you?
Yarn textures, colors, learning unusual techniques/stitches, and seeing wonderful designs from other designers/teachers.

Confess - when it comes to hiding your yarn, what are your secrets?
No secret. :-0 My yarn is stored in plastic containers. New yarn purchases are stored in the trunk of my car!

What is your idea of knitting heaven?
Knit without eating or sleeping and having ALL of the yarn at my fingertips.

How many UFO's (Unfinished Objects)do you have going at once?
3-5 UFO's

What is your most dog-eared knitting reference?
All of my knitting references are dog-eared. I guess it would be Barbara Walker's knitting books.

What is the most unusual place you've ever knitted?
In the emergency room at Kaiser Wes Los Angeles Hospital while waiting for the doctor. I had my knitting in one hand, and gauze in the other.

How long can you last without knitting?
24 hours.

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what one yarn, book, or gizmo would you want along?
Knitter's Magazine.

How many hours have you knitted non-stop - and why?
40hrs - 8am-5pm Mon.-Fri. Meeting an editor's deadline.

What do you want your knitting epitaph to say?
She knitted, crocheted, and sewed without ceasing.
