Biography |
I grew up in a big family in New Jersey. I went to school in Canada and now live in Minnesota. I work in housing and community development as well as designing and teaching. Since it is never too late to have a happy childhood, I now have the horse I always wanted!

What is your knitting mantra? |
How important is it?
In knitting, like life, you have to determine when the mistakes matter enough to correct, and when you see what you did, learn a bit from it, and move on!
What inspires you? |
My students! I learn something everytime I teach.
Confess - when it comes to hiding your yarn, what are your secrets? |
None, my yarn is in nice clear containers for all the world to see.
What is your idea of knitting heaven? |
A stack of film noir and WWII propaganda films, a cozy chair, a pot of tea.
How many UFO's (Unfinished Objects)do you have going at once? |
I always have several projects going, so they are in different stages. So when I'm in the mood for complex or mindless, I can choose. I also like variety.
My yarn stash equals the GNP (Gross National Product) of ... |
oh, someplace tiny. I really don't have much of a stash. (IMHO!)
Whom would you like to see accept an Academy Award wearing your creation? |
Judi Dench
What knitting commandment do you most like to break? |
All of them. Rules were made to be broken!
What frequently-asked knitting question do you hate to answer? |
How long did that take you?
What is your most dog-eared knitting reference? |
Mary Thomas. I've had it for 25 years!
When and how did you learn to knit? |
I learned as a child, knit some mittens and a few hats, then never knitted again until I was at university. At that point, I taught myself from books because I had no idea you could go to a yarn shop and ask for help! I found Knitting Without Tears and never looked back.
What is the most unusual place you've ever knitted? |
On horseback in the Canadian Rockies!
How long can you last without knitting? |
Oh a few days, if I'm really busy with physical work like gardening or horses.
How many hours have you knitted non-stop - and why? |
I'm not sure, probably 8-10 on a plan ride.
What do you want your knitting epitaph to say? |
A good time was had by all.
Who would you like to greet you in knitting heaven? |
Eleanor Roosevelt. She is a hero of mine for all her work. I have a photo of her knitting at a UN conference in my office and another of her knitting in the Governer's mansion hanging in my studio.
