Benjamin's guest on this week's edition of Fiber Hooligan was Drew Emborsky (a.k.a. The Crochet Dude™)... designer, teacher, and an icon in the fiber arts world. Drew joined the show from Houston, TX.

Benjamin welcomed Drew to the show and they talked briefly about the weather (Benjamin complained a bit about the snow) and STITCHES South 2013 which they had just attended the previous week.

Drew talked about learning to crochet from his mother and how he got into the industry--one thing leading to another--until Drew eventually became The Crochet Dude™.

Drew and Benjamin discussed a great many things during the podcast. Here is a brief list of most of the items they covered...

  • They talked about Drew's Crochet Dude™ Facebook page and the success he's had in building his social media presence.
  • They talked about Drew being the Halos of Hope Man of the Year and the work that he's done with that organization (and with Benjamin on the Great Halos of Hope Buzz). The video of the actual Buzz can be found here.
  • They talked about Drew's design work and who he has designed for.
  • They talked about Drew's various television appearances and what that allowed him to do as a teacher.
  • They talked about Drew starting his own yarn line, decades, and how that all came about... the fiber and Drew's inspiration about color choices.
  • Benjamin made a joke about Drew's yarn... asking if it true that you can't knit with those yarns… only crochet (something Drew been asked)?
  • They talked about Drew's other new yarn, Gemstones.
  • They talked about Drew's pattern support for all of your yarns.
  • They talked about the fact that Drew is an accomplished crochet wear and knit wear designer.
  • Drew talked about the importance of Local Yarn Stores.
  • They talked at length about Drew's new website, DrewEmborsky.com and the transition he's made to being a yarn seller and running an eCommerce site.
  • Drew talked about his teaching style and how he approaches his classes.
  • Benjamin asked Drew about his history of being a mentor to other designers.
  • Drew and Benjamin talked about Drew joining the ranks of the STITCHES Sponsors starting with the upcoming STITCHES Midwest 2013 show in August.
  • Benjamin asked about Drew's ability to balance his work life with his home life (Benjamin admitted to not being very good at that). Drew gave Benjamin and everyone some great advice on how to look life and work to achieve that balance.

Drew and Benjamin then gave away some prizes. Drew gave away a $100 credit on his site which was wond by Alison Mersincavage from Chester, NY. Benjamin gave away a free Drew Emborksy class at STITCHES Midwest 2013 which was won by Gina Mitchell from Chrisman, IL.

And the end of the interview, Drew expressed thanks to all of the people that have supported him.

Benjamin thanked Drew for being on the show and asked him he would come back as a guest in the future. Drew agreed that he would.

The quote of the show came from Drew when he was talking about all the people that he's designed for: "I guess you could say 'I got around' (smile)." To which Benjamin assured him that there was nothing wrong with that provided that everyone got good value.

Benjamin reminded people about his guest co-hooligan contest was ending at midnight on April 22, 2013. You can read more about that contest in the show notes from the last episode.

Benjamin closed the show with usual parting message… "I'd like to wish you all a glorious week," Benjamin said. "Remember… the only thing better than being creative is being kind to each other. The good news… you can do both. Thank you. I'll see you next week on another edition of Fiber Hooligan."
