A Sampler of Japanese Tips and Techniques with Gayle Roehm
![]() The techniques aren't exclusively Japanese, but you'll probably find them useful additions to your skill set. We'll work through: two tubular cast-ons; a vertical buttonhole; Japanese crocheted bobbles; and several variations on the three-needle bind-off. Note:This class doesn't cover how to read Japanese patterns. Supplies
__Small amounts of yarn for swatching; I suggest DK- to worsted-weight__3.75 to 5mm/US5 to 8 needles or sizes appropriate to yarn __one or two crochet hooks __Knitting Basics: Sharp scissors, Notebook, Pen or pencil with eraser, Stitch markers, Tapestry needles (large and small), Tape measure, Small calculator, Needles and crochet hooks of various sizes Homework
Make two swatches: Using medium-weight yarn (worsted- to DK-weight), cast on 20 stitches and work in stockinette for 10 to 14 rows. Don't bind off; leave this swatch on a holder. With yarn of the same weight in a different color, make another swatch in the same way and leave it on another holder.
