Repurpose That Sweater! with Tracy Purtscher
Grab those unloved wool sweaters lurking in your closet and on the racks of your local thrift store and give them a second chance at life. Go ahead, break the rules, and ignore the label that says “hand wash only” Let your wash machine and dryer do their worse, we want felt!
In class, we will use your new felt to make four quick and easy mug rugs using techniques similar to traditional rug making methods. Each of the four mug rugs will be a mini lesson in different felt strip rug making. Additional instruction and discussion will cover tips and guidelines for making full size home décor throw rugs. We will also explore other possible projects and materials appropriate for use with your new rugs making skills.

_6” embroidery hoop
_thimble if desired
_rotary cutter
_mat and rule if possible (scissors are ok)
_2 or more felted wool sweaters* of different colors
_long sharp needle – needles will be available for use in class
_Sewing Basics: Needles, Thread, Sharp scissors, Notebook, Pen or pencil with eraser, Tape measure, Seam ripper, Pins

*Sweaters MUST be felted before class.
Sweaters should be felted to the point where it can be cut and not ravel.
Type of sweater appropriate for felting:
100% wool
any style of sweater is ok
Plain Stockinette is preferred
NO cables or other highly textured stitches.
Fair Isle may or may not felt well, try to avoid these.
Wool blends of feltable fibers are ok (wool/silk, wool/mohair, wool/angora, etc
