Japanese Knitting Patterns: Getting Started with Gayle Roehm
Some Japanese knitting patterns do not have a translation but if they are presented in a graphic format, with drawings and charts that is all you need without knowing the language and a few pointers from Gayle Roehm.
Gayle will cover the basics of understanding such patterns. You'll learn where to find important information: gauge, needle size, and shaping. she will review a few key vocabulary words and basic stitch symbols to make it work, and where to get help should you encounter something unfamiliar.
If time permits, we'll practice a swatch to strengthen your chart-reading skills.
Note: You should have knit at least one sweater and be comfortable knitting from charts.
