Pattern-free and fabulous: Design and construction for garments that fit! (Single Room Full Payment) with Myra Wood
Discover Myra Wood’s template-based approach to knit and/or crochet wearables based on Knit in New Directions. She guides you through her creative approach and shares techniques for making one-of-a-kind, well-fitting garments
using full-size templates.
We’ll begin with an existing schematic
from the book or customize one from your measurements, then draft a full-size template.
As you transfer your ideas onto your template, Myra will get your creative juices flowing. Explore various design options— multi-directional, modular, freeform, or patchwork fabrics in knit, crochet, or both— even motif-based Irish crochet (see pink and green photo)! Sample color and texture with fun exercises and tons of inspiration, then learn about construction, sizing, fit, finishing, and embellishing. You’ll go home with an in-process design and a great tool to build future garments.
For the beginner, intermediate, and seasoned needleworker, the template-based exercise alone is worth the price of admission.
Join Myra for some serious fun!

f you are knitting, pick a needle size and yarn weight and knit a 3" square swatch in garter. If you are crocheting, pick a hook size and yarn weight and crochet a 4" square in double crochet stitch. You can try different hook and needle sizes until you find the combination you like best. Then bring that swatch, yarns the same weight and tools the same size as those used for the swatch to class.
