Hitomi Shida's Lace Mini-scarf with Gayle Roehm
Knitters who love beautiful stitch patterns are delighted with the Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible: 260 Exquisite Designs by Hitomi Shida, recently published in English. This class focuses on the scarf that's one of the book's introductory projects. We'll start the body of the scarf with a provisional cast-on, then continue to practice chart-reading and some of the more complex maneuvers, to ensure that you'll be able to complete the scarf at home. You'll gain experience and insight into the complex charts and symbols. If time permits, we'll remove the waste yarn cast-on to complete the "frill" at one end. The pattern will be provided; no need to purchase the book ahead of time.

Note: You MUST be comfortable knitting from charts. Some lace experience needed.

__Approximately 350 yards of sport- to DK-weight wool or wool-blend yarn, preferably in a light color
__A set of straight or circular needles in US size 5 or 6; you may want to have a couple of additional sizes to get gauge, especially if you're a tight or loose knitter – although gauge is not crucial in a scarf.
__Small amounts of smooth waste yarn
__Crochet hook for provisional cast-on.
__Knitting Basics: Sharp scissors, Notebook, Pen or pencil with eraser, Stitch markers, Tapestry needles (large and small), Tape measure, Small calculator, Needles and crochet hooks of various sizes
