PATTY LYONS (http://pattylyons.com/) is a nationally recognized knitting teacher and technique expert who is known for teaching the "why" not just the "how" in her pursuit of training the "mindful knitter". She specializes in sweater design and sharing her love of the much-maligned subjects of gauge and blocking.
Patty teaches nationally at guilds, shops and knitting shows around the country such as Vogue Knitting LIVE, and STITCHES. Her popular classes can also be found on DVD and online at Interweave, Annie's and Craftsy. She also runs wildly popular video sweater classes in her Ravelry group.
Patty designs and knitting skill articles have been published in Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits, Knit Purl, Knitter's Magazine, Cast On, Knit Style, Creative Knitting, Twist Collective and Mason Dixon Knitting where she writes a monthly knitter’s advice column: "Ask Patty". Patty's designs have also been included in pattern collections from Classic Elite, Noro, Cascade, Tahki Stacy Charles, Sugar Bush and Willow Yarns.

3135 Intermediate Customizing Sweater Patterns
How many times have you thought, "I'd like that sweater but I wish it had ..." Learn the simple math to change basic sweater elements. Using a simple pattern as a base, we will work through changing a crew-neck to a V-neck, changing the sleeve length, adding waist shaping and more. Learn how working a sweater in a different gauge can be to your advantage. Make every sweater pattern your own!
Note: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off. Should be familiar with sweater knitting, sweater patterns, and have knit a couple of sweaters. Solid knowledge of math of gauge required.
Thursday 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
5163 Intermediate Stop Turning: Knitting & Purling Backwards
My favorite knitting trick is to stop turning! If you hate purling, are unhappy with your uneven tension, or simply aren't crazy about flipping that 400-stitch basket-weave afghan around every time it's time to do a WS row, learn the joy of never turning! We will learn how to put the knit stitch and the purl stitch in reverse, as well as learn basic decreases, short rows, and picking up stitches backwards. Knitting and purling backwards is great for entrelac, bobbles, short rows, and chart work.
Note: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, and work simple increases and decreases without supervision.
Friday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
5145 Easy Magic of Perfect Blocking
Why spend all that time knitting a garment, only to stop short of making it look great! Blocking is an essential part of finishing your garment perfectly. Blocking evens out your stitches, sets your size, and in some cases can even mask your mistakes. In this workshop we will go over the 3 main methods of blocking (wet, steam, and spray) and learn how to use all the tools such as blocking boards and wires. We'll also discuss blocking unusual shapes and special stitch patterns, as well as learn a bit about different fiber properties. Come on, don't stop short of the perfect finish!
Friday 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
5392 Intermediate Seriously Sassy Stripes!
Add a little zing to any project with stripes! There's more to it than you think. In this workshop you will learn tricks like weaving in ends as you go, how to carry yarn up the side of your work, the best ways to join a new ball (including the super cool felted join), how to stripe in rib without a color break, jogless join when striping in the round and more! We will also go over fun design elements to spice up your work, like slip stitching, mixing in garter ridges, random stripe generator and variegated yarns. Time to get your stripe on!
Note: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, recognize the knit and purl stitch and be able to work them in a pattern.
Saturday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
5260 Easy Improve Your Knitting Technique
We know how to knit, but do we know how to build a perfect fabric? There's always room for improvement! Does your knitting 'row out' (your purl stitch is looser than your knit stitch), are you looking for a better way to control your gauge? What about alternative ways to tension your yarn when working with stiff yarn or slippery yarn? We'll explore ways to improve your knitting technique by looking at the most important fundamentals, like the job of the left needle tip and the right needle shaft, stitch sizing, and even the correct exit path of your stitch. We will explore edge stitches, cast-on and bind-offs and a huge array of knitting tips. The last part of the class will be open for all knitting questions (those you have put in the "bag of why"), so come with your questions and let's explore our knitting.
Note: Must know how to knit, purl, cast on, bind off, know simple increases and decreases, recognize the knit and purl stitches, and be able to work them in a pattern.
Saturday 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
5276 Intermediate Fantastic Cast-ons & Bind-offs
How you start and end a project is an important decision. There are so many amazing cast-ons and bind-offs, I've gathered some of my favorite and most practical. We will go over great cast-ons and bind-offs for lace, for rib, and more. We will also look at pairing cast-ons and bind-offs that look great together. Let's start and end with a bang!
Note: Must know the long-tail cast-on (in slingshot position), how to knit and purl, and have familiarity with stitch anatomy.
